Understanding Your Coverage Options
AHCCCS (Arizona Medicaid)
Arizona’s Medicaid program covers adults with income at or below 138% of the Federal Poverty Level. For a single adult in 2026, this means annual income of approximately $20,783 or less. AHCCCS provides comprehensive coverage including primary care, hospital stays, prescriptions, dental, vision, and behavioral health — typically with no monthly premium and minimal copayments. Applications are accepted year-round through the Health-e-Arizona Plus portal, and our counselors can complete the application with you in person or over the phone.
KidsCare (CHIP)
Arizona’s Children’s Health Insurance Program covers children under 19 in families with income between 138% and 200% FPL. KidsCare premiums range from $10 to $70 per month per family (not per child), making it one of the most affordable children’s health coverage options available. The program covers doctor visits, immunizations, emergency care, prescriptions, dental, vision, and behavioral health services. Like AHCCCS, enrollment is open year-round.
ACA Marketplace Plans
The Health Insurance Marketplace at Healthcare.gov offers private health plans organized into metal tiers: Bronze (lowest premiums, highest deductibles), Silver (moderate premiums with CSR benefits), and Gold (higher premiums, lower out-of-pocket costs). Premium Tax Credits are available for households between 100% and 400% FPL, and under the Inflation Reduction Act extension, even higher-income households may qualify for subsidies that cap premiums at 8.5% of household income. Silver plans are particularly valuable for households below 250% FPL, as they unlock Cost-Sharing Reductions that significantly lower deductibles and copayments.
Medicare
Americans aged 65 and older (or those with qualifying disabilities) are eligible for Medicare. Original Medicare includes Part A (hospital coverage, generally premium-free if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes for 10 or more years) and Part B (medical coverage, standard 2026 premium of $185/month). Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans combine Parts A and B through private insurers, often adding dental, vision, and hearing benefits. Part D covers prescription drugs. Our counselors help you compare these options against your specific healthcare needs and prescription medications.
